Thirty-five abstracts were received in response to the invitation and were considered by the Committee. The Committee were asked to ensure that the papers selected were of high academic standard, contribute new insights into fashion education and collectively address a broad range of issues. They selected proposals in relation to the following criteria:- a. The topic should make a contribution to pedagogical knowledge in the field of fashion education b. The proposal should be original and the author should demonstrate the potential to produce a well argued and coherent article c. The topic or findings should be of interest to a broad range of educators 3. The committee noted that some of the papers submitted, whilst interesting in themselves, did not clearly address the pedagogical focus of the initiative; some did not appear to provide evidence of evaluations of existing practice and were rather speculative in nature; and a significant proportion made no reference to any research or other published material on the topic. 4. In view of very good response and the observations of the Committee it has been decided to conduct the final evaluation of papers in two stages. In stage one the Committee has shortlisted 19 proposals for further development. The authors of these proposals are being asked to submit full papers for final evaluation by the Committee keeping in mind the above mentioned observations and guidelines provided by the Committee. 5. I am now writing to inform you that your proposal has been selected to go forward to the next stage. 6. The Editorial Committee requests that you submit the full paper by 01st March 2004 to Ms. Elizabeth Rouse at e.rouse@lcf.linst.ac.uk with a copy to Secretary IFFTI at ifftisec@yahoo.com. The paper should be between 3,000 –5,000 words in length, double-spaced and use the Harvard style of referencing. In writing your paper, the committee asks if you will bear in mind the general comments of the committee given at paras 2 and 3 above. 7. The Committee also invites you to present your paper at the 6th IFFTI Annual Conference scheduled to be held at National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, India from 28th to 30th March 2004. Kindly note that you will not be charged the Conference Registration Fee of US $300.00. However, the cost of travel, boarding and lodging would have to met by your Institution. 8. In the event that your full paper is finally selected by the Editorial Committee for publishing, IFFTI would make an award of US$1000.00 to you as per the terms already specified in IFFTI Secretariat letter no.
